Hot Travel Trend: Bunk Beds in Boutique Hotels

Will San Diego follow the trend?

Article:

Bunk beds are associated with “The Brady Bunch,” IKEA catalogs, and summer camp. But hip urban hotels?

Travelers tend to encounter bunk beds only in a select few places: youth hostels, vacation homes, perhaps the occasional quirky flophouse hotel. A lodging establishment with bunks could be expected to be dated and grungy — shag rug, wood-panel walls, old mattresses, a funky must in the air. Not so anymore.

A new breed of cool, modern hotels may make travelers rethink the bunk bed. In New York City and other U.S. locations where square footage comes at a premium, hotels are embracing bunks to appeal to guests’ nostalgia, as well as the simple need to save money and space. And they’re pairing bunks with boutique amenities and atmosphere and hip, sleek, upscale design.

 Hotels are replenishing staff due to industry rebound

Continued revenue improvements throughout the hotel industry are prompting hotels to drop labor-related cost-cutting methods and ramp up hiring efforts, this feature says. “The improvement’s gotten to the point where hotel managers can no longer operate with a limited staff, and they have to staff up,” said Robert Mandelbaum, a director at PKF Hospitality Research. “Business is getting better, and we need to give them service, especially in the 4- and 5-star hotels,” said Joe McInerney, president and CEO of AH&LA. Band or DJ?

Are you planing for your 2012 San Diego event and need entertainment and wondering if you should go with a live band or DJ?  There’s nothing like a live band to wow your attendees in the mood and create a sense of style of elegance to your event.  Bandleaders will also take on the role as  the master of ceremonies at your event if that is what you choose. They will interact with your attendees, pay attention to the feel of the room, and make any announcement you wish to have announced.

As for hiring a DJ, today’s disc jockeys are professional artists offering a huge range of musical styles and master of ceremony services. They can manage the energy your attendees and keep the mood you want flowing!
